German-Indian Round Table in Hamburg to discuss the opportunities in India’s civil aviation, on March 21, 2011

Hamburg (14.03.2011): India’s civil aviation has registered impressive growth in previous few years. While the number of domestic passengers, according to official figures, grew 18.7% in 2010, from 43.8 million in 2009 to 52.0 million in 2010, the international passenger traffic to India has increased from 20.2 million in fiscal 2005/06 to 32.1 million in fiscal 2009/10.

India’s domestic airlines have been at the forefront of this development. While they carried a total number of 6.2 million international passengers in 2005/06, this number had nearly doubled to 11.1 million by fiscal 2009/10, increasing their share in the total international traffic in India to 34.4%. Such developments are encouraging India’s airlines to start operating on new domestic and international routes. st March 2011, at 18:30h in Hotel Baseler Hof (Esplanade 11, 20354 Hamburg).

The growth effects are however not limited to India’s domestic firms alone. Foreign carriers could increase their international passenger traffic to and from India from 14 million to 21 million between 2005/06 and 2009/10. Similarly, Indian firms have been placing orders abroad for new aircrafts. For instance, in January 2011 one Indian domestic carrier placed an order for 180 Airbuses A320 for a catalogue price of $ 15.6 billion.

German-Indian Round Table in Hamburg has therefore decided to organize an event to discuss issues related to developments in Indian air transportation and is pleased to announce a guest talk on this topic by Ms. Carola Flegler, representing India’s largest privately owned airline Jet Airways in Germany. The event will take place on Monday, 21

The meeting takes place in the form of a "Stammtisch", whereby each participant is expected to consume his or her evening meal at the meeting and pay for own consumption of food and beverages. This is a part of the arrangement with the event venue so that we can generate a minimum turnover for them and ensure that we do not have to charge a participation fee.

Participation in this event is possible by invitation. Those interested in receiving an invitation may write to tiwari@tuhh.de by March 17, 2011.

Since seating capacity is limited we require binding registration and will send the confirmed participants a written affirmation of the registration prior to the event.
